So I ask you… Why do you CrossFit? Is it to get better at CrossFit?

99% of the CrossFit population would answer “No” to that question.

We all have external factors that motivate us to show up every day;  To live a longer life, to live a better life, to do physical activities with our kids or friends, to get better at a sport, to look better naked, to be harder to kill.

The motivations to be fit are infinite.   The ways people express their fitness only begins once they leave the “box”.

So how do you Express Your Fitness?  Share with us what you do and use #ExpressYourFitness   I recently published an article that was picked up by the Tabata Times comparing CrossFit as a sport to CrossFit as a test of fitness. I picked on Dave Castro and the CrossFit Open a little bit as I thought they weren’t staying true to the fitness side.  Of course, Castro shut me up real quick as he introduced 15.5 after I penned the article. crossfit open living superhuman Overall, I think the CrossFit Open still tested more sport than fitness, but that is PERFECTLY fine with me. I am NOT complaining and will look forward to getting better to compete in next year’s Open.

During this next year however, I will not walk into my CrossFit gym with the mindset of placing higher than 935th in the SouthEast region.  If I place 936th next year, I will be perfectly happy with my past year of training.

I’m going to give all I have in the gym every day because I want to be the best dad I can be to my 15 month old. I want my wife to be more attracted to me with every day that passes. I want to be the best coach I can be and an inspiration to those around me.  I want to be able to play soccer, football, kickball, baseball, etc. with friends, AND play them well. I want to take trips to amazing places I haven’t seen yet and just walk them for days taking in all the beauty of this world. I want to hike, ski, and mountain bike whenever I can find the time to leave this hot, flat, tropical paradise we live in.  I want to be able to take advantage of this amazing tropical paradise we live in.  I want to have the physical capabilities to protect my loved ones if I ever needed to. I want to be a role model to younger kids growing up, playing sports, doing CrossFit. I want to be able to drive a golf ball a respectable distance so when Rory McIlroy finally asks me to play a round with him, I will be ready.  For what it’s worth, I can probably throw a 3 iron further.
