Why Skinny People Should Do a Weight Loss Challenge

Posted on 06. Jan, 2015 by in Get Motivated, SUPERHUMAN30 Challenge

Weight loss challenge, paleo challenge, no-sugar challenge, Superhuman 40 challenge… Whatever yours is branded as, they should all be very similar at their heart.  They should be encouraging you to drop sugary processed foods, while eating an abundance of real, nurturing foods that come from nature.

We brand the Superhuman 40 Challenge a ‘transformation challenge” because we want people of all shapes and sizes to join us.  My brother Andrew and I both took on this challenge when we already thought we were super fit, and ended up having life-altering experiences, superhuman changes.  As you can see from the pic below, you can hardly call my visual transformation dramatic.  But what I felt on the inside was my life changing story.

There are many skinny people out there who turn their nose at a weight loss challenge, because they have nothing to lose.

My response when I hear that;

“You have everything to gain…Abundant energy, great mood, building muscle, sleep better, reduce inflammation, reduce skin or hair issues, prevent disease, prevent injury, reduce stress, and burn fat!”

“Hey, Who you calling fat?!?”

Sorry I forgot, Mr. Skinny person.  And excuse me for sounding like an infomercial.

The point I’m trying to make is this;

Not every fat person is unhealthy and not every skinny person is healthy.

They even have a term for the skinny people who are dangerously at-risk for serious health issues.  It’s called, “skinny fat.” (The medical term is “metabolically obese normal weight or MONW”)

“Skinny fat” is used to describe a person who may not have a lot of subcutaneous fat you can see, but they have a lot of visceral fat that has built up inside their body. This is the most dangerous fat because it builds around abdominal organs like the heart, kidney, and intestines.  Putting these people at a higher risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

If you are already at risk due to family history of these diseases, a poor diet will only compound your health problems.

In contrast, a better diet as prescribed through a challenge could even reverse the health you thought you were previously destined for.  Every time you put a piece of food in your mouth or lay down to sleep, you are signaling your cells to work or not work.  When your cells stop working, your organs stop working, and you stop working.

When it comes to your car, you can put off your next oil change for another 5000 miles and your car is most likely still going to get you from point A to point B.

When it comes to your body, you should allow yourself to live an extraordinary life.  Stop going through the motions of A to B, B to A, sleep and repeat.

Just like your car can keep traveling while possibly doing damage to the engine, your body can keep going as you damage it.  Problem is, there is no check engine light on your arm or leg.

If you are skinny, I don’t care if its skinny fat or skinny fit, and you have zero goals pertaining to weight loss, I’m challenging you today to perfect your diet for a given amount of time, (optimally 40 days but at least 2 weeks minimum).

I guarantee you find something that was your “check engine” light.

It’s going to be unique to you, possibly something you thought you would never escape, like a bad skin problem or chronic back pain.

Finding out what your “check engine” light is amazing and even liberating. But resolving the issue completely, that’s Superhuman.
